Oddly there's a marriage on FreeBMD for a James Hickmott in the same quarter in Maidstone district. Bride either Susan Sarah Bolten/Botten or Emily Savage. Most likely Susan Sarah as I can see an Emily with the other groom and a Savage brother in law

Postem to that marriage ref
Postems for this entry:

20/09/2007   age 50, bachelor, labourer, County Place, son of John, carpenter to Sarah Bolten, 8 Nov Holy Trinity, Maidstone

Thanks for all the inputs so far.
As usual with these puzzles each potential clue provokes further questions   ???

I might just need to order the 1864 marriage certificate between James H Hickmott and Helen Wallace to satisfy my curiosity.

I can’t see those names on Free BMD.

This says ‘Marriage notice’. Is that prior to a marriage?

This is the link re ‘Marriage notice’, I posted earlier.
I could not see a civil marriage record.

So far unable to find Elizabeth Hannah 1841/1851 (EDIT 1841)
She is a servant 1861;
Elizabeth Hickmott 23   Servant born Lewisham

Married Richard BROOKS 1862 London, Father Samuel, signs as Elizabeth Hannah

Ok 1851 her age is wrong but still a servant to the same woman ?
Elizabeth Hickmott   19   Servant

I think you will also find Samuels Parents were Mary STAPELY/Walter HICKMOT who married 17 Oct 1792, St Peter and St Paul, Wadhurst, Sussex

Again, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread.

On the 1864 Hickmott / Wallace marriage, despite a bit more digging and the fact that there is no GRO registration and no mention of the couple in the 1871+ Census Returns suggests to me that perhaps the marriage never took place.

I'm also still puzzled why Samuel and Susanna's 1839 Marriage does not appear on the FreeBMD site?

Anyway, onwards and upwards...

My apologies; that was a typo. I meant to put 1829, which is before civil registration.
