Hi All,
I have a marriage cert and was trying to find the address of the groom on Google maps without any luck, I can find a place in Birmingham but not one in Devon
I was wondering if the address no longer exists and if so is there any old maps I could scan to find the said place.
                     please see attached.........

Great Barr is in Birmingham so what you have found is probably correct.

Address suggests he was not from Devon, there weren't any coal mines in the county either, copper and tin yes historically but that had largely ceased before WW1. Married near the bride's home of Braunton (registration district of Barnstaple) not his.

It was perfectly normal - and probably still is - for marriages to take place in the bride's parish, which could be a long way from the groom's.  In 1881 a member of my family tree went from Devon to marry in Dungarvan in southern Ireland - the bride was originally from the same town in Devon, but her whole family had 'emigrated' in the 1850s.  At about the same time a brother of the bride travelled in the opposite direction to marry one of the assistants in the groom's grocery shop.
