When Thomas married Jane Baxendale, their addresses were Miry Lane.

There are two burials shown on Find a Grave - Lower Ince Cemetery

Daniel Linford
6th February 1870 (aged 68–69)
Lower Ince Cemetery
Plot R C, F 625 *
Place of death James St, Miry Lane

Elizabeth Gregson
27th September 1875
Lower Ince Cemetery
Plot CoE 180*
Place of death, 18 Miry Lane

These would need checking

That would explain that when daughter Martha died 1844 only her mother Betty Gregson was given.

Thanks for all your help. I have just spent all afternoon being unsuccessful on Daniel and Elizabeth Gregson ne Smith.  I may have to give up on that side of the family.

I think giving a maiden name of "Smith" is a misnomer.

The clerk who recorded Martha's death knew her mother as  Betty Gregson, NOT the daughter of

Daniel (Linford/Gregson) and Betty Gregson.

As Dundee and Heywood have pointed out Danial is actually Danial Linwood not Danial Gregson

The clerk at the registration office would write what he was told, he had no way of checking.

Family research is tricky, so many marriages that never took place, until government pension plans etc. came into being a person would not have to provide proof of anything.

Linford not Linwood.

It is difficult without definite records which name D L.
I can’t find the Gregsons in 1861 nor Daniel on the site I use.

The son William, b 1855 is registered with mmn Gregson and baptised as the son of Elizabeth Gregson, Singlewoman.
On his marriage in 1874, he gives his father as Daniel Gregson, labourer.

All your Gregson relatives are Gregsons by birth records.
