Burial Tooting Cemetery 1921
« on: Tuesday 16 May 23 10:24 BST (UK) »
I have a press cutting dated 20 Jan 1921 thanking people for their good wishes following the death of two daughters of Thomas Traynor (aka medley Barrett).  At first I thought they must have died together p perhaps in an accident or something p but they died in different places.  They are Violet Caroline Matthews nee Traynor, b 28 Mar 1986, Southwark, d Lambeth and Dora Constance Traynor, b 3 Dec 1897, d Swindon.  It says “they were buried together at Tooting Cemetery on Thursday”.  I don’t know if this means in the same grave or just at the same time.  Can find nothing on Find a Grave for any of the three cemeteries listed in Tooting.  Any suggestions please?
Thank you.

Have you tried searching ‘deceased online’ website

I can see both of them mentioned on there

I'm not sure which of the first two options you need to get cemetery and full plot number.

For Streatham you need the Section (a letter or 1-2-digit number) + grave number. You may be told whether the grave is Consecrated (CofE) or Unconsecrated (everyone else). but I don't think that's important to finding the grave there.

For Lambeth, make  sure you have the complete Section number which is normally a letter, single digit, and Cons/Uncons. On the map, upper or lower case letter distinguishes between Cons and Uncons, but I can't remember which offhand. If you don't get the full informatiom, you may find it in the register scan or have to scour several places.

Don't bother to buy a map. As far as I know, Deceasedonline's ones do not show the exact positions of individual graves in either cemetery -- they're just nicely redrawn versions of the section plans on big signs at the gates, the Find a Grave cemetery main pages, and elsewhere online.

If you'd like to provide the plot number here or by a PM to me, I shoud be able to assess the likelihood of finding the grave, but I'm not able to go and look at present.

That is vey kind Chris.  The sisters are in 464 T 3 - nothing in the consecrated/unconsecrated column.  I am unlikely to ever visit but a photo would be nice - if there is anything to photograph - & I may be able to arrange that one day. Thank you!

There are no little-t sections, so no confusion there. I've looked through my photos but don't seem to have any from Section T3, so either I've never got to that corner or there's nothing to photograoh. But there's hope as it's not one of the areas where they never cut the grass and last time I was at Streatham and Lambeth someone had been exposing sunken flat stones.

I suggest you create memorials on Find a Grave for the two sisters and make photo requests which will remind me and other photo volunteers to look. PM me if you need any help setting this up.
