decipher handwriting: place name on marriage cert, Arvagh, 1869
« on: Wednesday 17 May 23 13:42 BST (UK) »
This is an excerpt from an Arvagh marriage Cert in  1869 (spelt Arva back in the day).
I can't make out the writing of the chapel where the marriage took place. I've tried googling with no success

Can anyone help please?

Can we see some more of the marriage record? Especially the residences of the bride and groom which may indicate the townlands where they lived.

It's beneficial to attach a link to the marriage record.

I suspect it's supposed to read Potahee, part of Ballintemple RC, located close to the village of Ballinagh Co. Cavan, the town of Arvagh is just a few km to the west

Here's the townland of Pottahee in Ballintemple civil parish, and SW of the village of Bellananagh.

Here's the rest of the relevant part of the Cert. Yes, I think it's Pottahee (then spelt Potahee)

You're very welcome  ;D

Cavan is known as the Lake County, containing 365 lakes and Ireland's two largest rivers the Shannon and Erne, both rise in Cavan. It's other main geological feature is its rolling drumlins, small rounded hills, which dot the county.

You might like to see the location of the RC Church mentioned in your marriage record. It's in the NW of Pottahee townland (St. Michael's).
