Richard Houghton 1881 Census

I'm looking for Richard Houghton on the 1881 census. He was born Wigan and was a furnace man. He had worked in Hume 1871 and Toxteth Park 1861. His wife Sarah and children are in Wigan in 1881, it states that she is the head of the household and married. I have a possibilty of his death in 1883,the address is given as Spring Gardens, Wigan but as it's a common grave, I can't be sure it's him but the age fits perfectly.

Is there an occupation on the death certificate?

There is a large gap between children Richard 1870 and Louisa c 1878

Could he have died much earlier ?

Thank you for your replies. I have Richard's birth cert. 27/4/1839 to John Houghton and Mary Green. I have him on census up to 1871 but none after that. That's interesting that Fanny was adopted, she married Peter Fairhurst, Father was left blank. Louisa Houghton married Charles Houghton (not related) but her Father was listed as Richard a furnaceman. I haven't sent for the death cert. I saw on Wigan World yet, I might have to try it. His wife Sarah is on the 1881 census as married but in 1891 a widow, which made me think he could be the 1883 death.

I can't find the birth for Louisa either. I agree with Trish, there is a big age gap between the last two children. The 1883 death record gives his birth as 1844, not impossible but out by 5 years. I can't find Richard anywhere in 1881 either.
