I don't have a subscription to findmypast or British Newspaper Archive however I see a mention a Richard HOUGHTON in relation to tending furnaces in Leigh, Lancs in Feb 1879. A possible sighting?  :-\

Yes I saw that too but it says he was an old man of 58 years so I discounted it.

Thank you for your replies. I am thinking now that Louusa's Father wasn't Richard. I am going to send for the death certificate in 1872. It's strange though that there's no sign of Louisa's Birth that fits her Birth year, could it be that the Birth wasn't registered? She had probably been told that her Father was Richard and put it on the marriage cert.
