McCartney of Farkland,Drum, Co. Derry
« on: Friday 19 May 23 10:34 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am researching McCartney of Farkland.  My grandmother Mary McCartney born circa 1878, I can find no birth cert only that she married in 1916 and her father's name was James McCartney and he died in 1898.  Looking to connect with any McCartney's from this area.  Thank you.

Welcome to RootsChat!

I'm not connected to the McCartney family, but I do have an interest in Irish family history research (being half-Irish myself), so I thought I would have a look for you and see if I could provide any assistance.

Based on what you have included in your post, I see that your grandmother married John O'Kane:

One of the witnesses was Sarah A McCartney.

There is a 35-year-old Mary McCartney living with her mother, Sarah, in Farkland in 1911:

Similarly in 1901:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Drum/Farkland/1523905/

Based on this, there are possible siblings for Mary:
Patrick (c.1874)
Thomas (c.1878)
James (c.1881)

But I am struggling to find their birth registrations  ??? Also, the 1911 census states that Sarah married in 1871, but I also can't find a suitable marriage registration.

Thank you for your reply heywood and I apologise for my delay in responding. I am new to the system and am still trying to figure out my way around it.
