I wonder where this William Brooks comes into it.
I'll try and find if there is any relevance to this. If christened with a 'father' of William Brooks, assuming this is the same Ambrose, could it be possible that Elizabeth had started relations with another man so quickly after her husbands death? Or, less likely could this even be his father? If the 1826 birth is correct.

My Ambrose Allen was born 1826, but I have found records to show it could possibly be 1825, which puts this George into the equation!

I don't think George was the father. If he were, then he would have been listed on the baptism record, with a note that he was deceased.

George was buried on 11th April 1824 and Ambrose was baptised on 6th January 1826. Even if Ambrose was a few months old, he couldn't have been George's child.

I have an ancestor who was buried on 3rd March 1773; on 22nd January 1775, the illegitimate son of his wife (also my ancestor) was baptised. He was named after the father, who was a local yeoman.

Thank you.

This is all rather confusing me ;D ???

I'm now having Issues with finding Elizabeth King's parents.

There's a baptism below:

Name   Elizabeth King
Gender   Female
Baptism Date   3 Jun 1787
Baptism Place   Great Hormead,Hertford,England
Father
Ambrose
Mother
Sarah
FHL Film Number   0973141 IT 4

This could explain where the Name Ambrose comes from, but there is also this one a year prior.

Name   Elizabeth King
Gender   Female
Baptism Date   16 Jul 1786
Baptism Place   Furneux Pelham,Hertford,England
Father
Benjamin King
Mother
Mary
FHL Film Number   991318

Is there any way to be sure of her father?
There is no marriage record I can find transcribing names.

Im building up a brick wall will William too...  ???

Thanks all

Elizabeth was the widow of George Allen - also a blacksmith - with whom she had many children; the youngest (baptised in 1821) was also a Fanny Allen!  ;D George died in 1824, aged 40. He married Elizabeth (maiden name King) in 1807.

they didn't by any chance have a daughter Elizabeth old enough to be Ambrose's mother?

There are a few ways that might prove more conclusive, but it is just a matter of luck whether what you are looking for is actually out there. For example, if an ancestor is named in a parent's will under her married name, if an ancestor witnesses a sibling's marriage under her married name; these are just off the top of my head.

However, when travelling back this far on one's genealogical journey, I find that certainty becomes rarer and rarer and it starts to become a matter of probability. I like to apply the principle of Occam's razor in that the simplest explanation is usually the best one!

In this case, is Elizabeth more likely to be the one baptised where she was married, with a father who shares a name with her son? I would say so.

Just my opinion, but I thought I would share it.

Nope, no daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth was only around 40 in 1826, so definitely young enough to have another child. Ambrose's son George also appears with her on the 1861 census, described as her grandson.
