Your first step would be to find complete information about Duncan’s parents.
Where and when were they born and died? Have you found a marriage for them?
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

Hi Neale1961,
Duncan's parents were irregularly married at Dysart, Perthshire 1st January 1778.  Much is known about the Bride, Catherine Horn.  Very little about the Groom, John Campbell.   Hope someone can help.   Was the Grand Father of Duncan (1794-1861) also a Duncan?
Regards

Duncan's parents were irregularly married at Dysart, Perthshire 1st January 1778.
The parish of Dysart is in Fife, not Perthshire. It's next to Kirkcaldy.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

The minutes of Dysart Kirk Session for 1st November 1778 include the following:

Compeared John Campbell irregularly married to
Catharine Horn - produced a Line of Jan 1st 1778 - was
rebuked & dismist.

["dismist" = dismissed from church discipline]

Hi ColC,
The Duncan born 1782 above may have died early --  A;; of Duncan's records in adult life claim he was born in 1794.
No other children found.
Kind reagrds
