Harrick Head, Rossendale
« on: Saturday 27 May 23 12:04 BST (UK) »
Hi,
First post ever. Here goes. Parish records of St James' Haslingden has one Edmund Collinge of "Harrick Head" buried in August 1796. I suspect this could/should be Hazel Head. Has anyone ever heard of a Harrick Head?

Hello old duffer and welcome to RootsChat.

There is also a Hugh Rake Head in the  Haslingden are, another possibility worth considering. you can see it here on this 1849 map

Though I can see just south of Hugh Rake Head is Hazel Head, with Collinge Fold Mill close by - a coincidence of names?

Looking on Lancs OPC, I see a couple of baptisms for children of Edward and Margaret COLLINGE has his abode as "Haslehead" (James 1769) and "Hazlehead" (Alice 1771). And Edmund and Margaret COLLINGE (Edmund 1774) has abode "Hazzlehead". And quite a few similar entries for the children of Edmund and Peggy COLLINGE.

So I think Hazel Head is most likely correct.
