Interestingly, I’ve just now watched that Time Team episode from a few years ago where they excavate in the grounds of Castle Howard to find evidence of the village that was cleared away when the 3rd Earl of Carlisle built the grand house that you see today at the beginning of the 18thC.  One of  those village houses was lived in by a George Campleman, according to a contemporary map.
That Jan 10th 1798 Terrington marriage of Thomas Stephenson from Allerthorpe was to a Sarah Campleman.  I wonder whether she was a descendant of George…

I think you mean 1778 for the marriage.  ;)  Just from a very quick look - Most likely Sarah was the daughter of Ralph CAMPLEMAN and Rachel WARD who married 23 April 1758. Sarah baptised 4 June 1759, the register notes father Ralph as "jnr".

A Ralph CAMPLEMAN baptised 31 Aug 1734, son of Ralph.

All at Terrington, on FreeReg.

Can't see a connection to George CAMPLEMAN. Looks like a burial for a George CAMPLEMAN 25 Feb 1708/9. Possibly the one whose house was demolished.  :-\

Hi again, Trish1120 (still rocking that baby, I see!),

At least with this photo I don't age ;D

As an aside, I do love your avatar trish - such joy captured so beautifully! I often wonder how old the baby is now though.  :D

Maddys52 - and Trish1120,
Yes, the year was indeed 1778, and not 1798...
And I think I recollect that in the programme a Bartholomew CAMPLEMAN was also mentioned, and that he had moved to the village of Ganthorpe when his original village and dwelling place was demolished as it would spoil the view from the new grand house.
A similar thing happened with Madingley Hall, just up the road from us, as was the case so often elsewhere.  Though the church remained in situ.
Ganthorpe of course features in these STEPHENSON rites of passage.
(And where has the last 14 years flown to, anyway...?)
