So sorry everyone, I've been silly here. It was the lady who put both ads out. She had never told me that she had lived in Ripon! I got excited and jumped to conclusions. Thanks for putting me back into sensible land :).

The Manchester one was looking for Frank (father) and the Newcastle for the son who, it says, was sent to live in Newcastle.
Thatks how I read it anyway.

The mobile number would have been updated from 0765 to 07765.

Try googling the number with the additional 7

From the article in the paper it is a landline number which says Ripon and then the number. It was just missing a 1.

Many UK 5 digit numbers have been changed to 6 digits by the addition of an extra digit at the start. The page given below lists a number of Masham businesses whose numbers begin consistently with 688- or 689-, suggesting that the old 89xxx numbers are now 689xxx. So you might want to try that with the number you have, remembering the updated code (01765) as well.

Yes, The lady I am helping actually placed both ads. I knew she had placed the Newcastle one so never looked at that. I didn't know she had also placed the Manchester one or that she had ever lived in Ripon!!
