John eversden
« on: Wednesday 31 May 23 17:08 BST (UK) »
Hi
Tracing a friends family tree
In my research I have Ann eversden married to Joseph robinson in 1878
Shows father John eversden
Census 1911 shows Ann born in Cambridge
My dilemma is
I have records showing a John Eversden being convicted and given life in Cambridge in 1837
But census 1861 with a John eversden and Elizabeth and daughter Ann in great eversden Cambridge
Could this be the same John sent to Australia.  Any records showing him returning to uk?

Do you have Ann with mother Elizabeth?

1851 1758 /390 /20
John and Elizabeth

Possibly 1841 68/9/12
John with brother?

If it is John and Elizabeth, do you have her as Elizabeth Camkin?
If so, do you have the marriage certificate with John’s father’s name?

I see baptisms
1805 Great Eversden - parents William and Rebecca

1809 with parents John and Ann, Little Eversden

Hi. No don’t have the marriage certificate
Have details 29/10/1842 to Elizabeth camkin.  And lots of info re a child called Mary Munday going to Toronto.  But still not sure if this John Everdeen is the same one who gets sent to Australia in 1837

I have records showing a John Eversden being convicted and given life in Cambridge in 1837

Do you mean 1836? I can see that a John and Thomas Eversden, shepherds to Mr. Emsoa [sic], were convicted of stealing sheep that year and sentenced to be transported for life.

From the registers, John was aged 28 (born c.1808) and Thomas was aged 26 (born c.1810).

William and Rebecca Eversden had:

- John, baptised 1805
- Thomas, baptised 1808

So it seems likely that these are the 2 who were convicted.

If so, do you have the marriage certificate with John’s father’s name?

The transcription of this marriage gives John's father as John, so it seems he was the John baptised to John and Ann at Little Eversden in 1809.

Ok.  So there does appear to be 2 John Everdeen born in Cambridge
I will assume that the John and Thomas born to William were given life and went to Australia
And John born to John is a completely different John Everdeen
Do we think that is right?

In my opinion, it is highly likely that this is the correct scenario.
