World War One Record
« on: Thursday 01 June 23 13:41 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am searching for a World War One Record (possibly DLI) for Walter Harding Davison, born in Sunderland on the 2nd November 1894.

I have found a Merchant Seaman Record for him, dated 1918, but no other military evidence.

However, I have noticed that ancestry have a UK World War TWO Royal Artillery Tracer Card 1939-1948 under the name of Walter Harding Davison, but I am unable to access it.

Would anybody know if this was the Walter born in 1894?

Many Thanks
Sue

The card doesn't have a date of birth but it says that he joined DLI on 14 June 1926.  Army number 4445483.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

That WW2 record is most likely the one born in 1905. He was not discharged from the Reserve until 1954.

There are over a dozen Walter Davisons and W H Davisons who served in the Army in the First World War, if that merchant seaman's record turns to to be incorrect.  Two or three have hospital records which match his year of birth, but many of the others are just MICs with no date of birth or other useful details.
