Help needed - uniform identification Maurice Armstrong
« on: Friday 02 June 23 18:38 BST (UK) »
Hello!

I’m hoping someone will be able to help me identify the uniform in the photo below. I’m lucky that my grandfather is still with us and has lots of family photos. We found this one today and don’t know who the person is for certain but believe it could be Maurice Armstrong, his great-grandfather, because I’ve found him on the 1891 census as ‘Keeper of Prison’ at Prison Reidhaven Street in Banffshire. He is also on the 1881 census as a Police Constable in Aberlour.

I can’t find any photos on Google that match the distinctive pattern on his hat so a bit stumped as to whether this could be him or someone of a different profession.

TIA for any help/ideas!

Hello and welcome to RootsChat  :)

Have a look here www.scottishpolicemedals.co.uk/scottish-police-force-galleries-men-equipment-insignia/stirling-burgh-police/

There is one photo in particular about half way down where the hat is a good match to your photo.
