Maurice Hyland
« on: Sunday 04 June 23 11:19 BST (UK) »
A ships list has a 25 year old Maurice Hyland leaving Queenstown in Ireland for New York in 1902, on board the Oceanic.

I can’t find him at the other end, having tried Ancestry and familysearch. The only likely candidate, age wise, in the USA 1910 and 1920 census, has an immigration year of 1882.

Can SKS see if they can locate him?

What were his parents names ?  Census and immigration dates are not always accurate so discount him in 1910 and 1920.

Here is an obituary for a Maurice J Hyland - born 1876  (seems to say he immigrated when he was 6 years old but again that depends on who knew him and who gave the information)

Pedigree resource tree - parents appear to be a Maurice Joseph  Hyland and Catherine (Kate) Carson
(hence the name of the son born to Maurice and Margaret)

My chap is born 1877 in Robinstown, County Westmeath, Ireland, the son of Edward and Eliza nee Coghlan.

He’s a 25 year old servant in Irish 1901 census, not living with his parents. Not been able to track him down in 1911 census so far, but may be time for another look.

So you can discount the 1910 and 1920 census - good to have more background info

He does make it to New York aboard the Oceanic, indexed as Calli Hyland (with Morris pencilled in over Calli); aged 25, says he's from Mullingar and seems to be travelling with two others:

https://www.ancestry.ca/imageviewer/collections/7488/images/NYT715_270-0060?backlabel=ReturnSearchResults&queryId=07142885d84a342bd2cdb7aa1b9a9ee0&pId=4001582172

Bound for a Jos. Galen(?), address illegible in New York City; the woman above Jane Galt also from Mullingar says she is bound for the same place and it says "to brother" so perhaps Joseph's last name is Galt.  In the outbound record, Jane's last name looks like Folk.
