Jackson, Born Newcastle, Northumberland.
« on: Sunday 04 June 23 22:59 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Thanks in advance I am looking for some info.

I have traced all of my great grandfathers siblings, all except one. I cant find any info on her whatsoever.

From what I have in 1911 Census, Jeanie Jackson is 14 born 1897 in Newcastle on tyne. Mum Jane Jackson (Sykes) and Dad George Jackson.
1901 Census she is listed as Jane Jackson.

I cant seem to find her birth, properly. Closest I can find is JANE ELIZ SYKES, Goole, 1895 (GRO). That cant be right as in 1911 Census shes 14 which makes her birth year 1897.

Im stumped with this one!

Siblings:
James Sykes Jackson
Fred Jackson (My great-grandad)
Grace Eva Jackson
George Norman Jackson

Any help greatly appreciated.

1921 census Jenny was living at 10 Windsor Street, Darlington. Her 'father' deceased by that time. She was with her 'mother' and four other 'siblings', James Sykes, George Norman, Fred and Grace Eva.

Her age at the time of the 1921 census was stated as 25 years and 1 month, giving a birth date of Q2 1896.

I looked long hand through the Q2 1896 birth indexes for a Jackson / Jane / Jenny / Jessie etc and the only one that came up as  born at Newcastle was a Jenny Jackson Q2 1896 Newcastle T. vol 10b pg 69, and her mother's maiden name on the GRO is Robinson!

I am not saying I have the correct individual for you. Perhaps there is a story to be told about Jenny or her 'parents'. I hope others will be able to help out too.

If this was my family history I'd risk buying the certificate as a PDF and see what it says.

Have you got the marriage certificate for George Jackson to Jane Sykes?

FreeBMD has an entry 1888 registered Hartlepool.

If this is correct there were no children for 13 Years until James Sykes Jackson in 1901.

Could Jane/Jeanie have been born under a different name ? (both first and last names)

There is a possibility they expected to be childless and could have informally adopted her in 1896

I was just coming to the same conclusion as amondg

In the 1921 census Jane Jackson (mother) is 52.2 born Shildon.

There is a marriage:
All Saints, Stranton, County Durham
17 Nov 1888 George Jackson (of Belle Vue Terr., age 20, bachelor, blacksmith, son of Thomas Jackson, blacksmith) married Jane Sykes (of Owton Fence House, age 19, spinster, daughter of William Sykes, engine fitter)
Witnesses: Elisha Teasdale Sykes; Ruth Jackson

This family (based on the age of Jane Sykes and the presence of a brother Elisha and father William) is in Shildon in 1871.

This would put the marriage after the birth of Jenny in 1896.

It was early, I wasn’t thinking straight!

I also had the same thought that Jean/ Jane may have been adopted, and her birth was registered under another name.
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)

Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)
Munster: (Schleswig-Holstein & Queensland) and Plate: (Braunschweig, Neubruck & Queensland & New York)

She is named 'Jane' in 1901.
