Emily Nelson
« on: Monday 05 June 23 05:21 BST (UK) »
Emily Nelson. Born Belfast 1846. Father James Nelson.  Wine merchant    She married John Taylor abt 1863. I’m not sure where.  Then she was widowed and remarried a William Bassett in Dublin  date unknown.
I think this Emily Nelson is the sister of my James Nelson. B 1841. Belfast.  Both had their fathers name as James Nelson. Wine Merchant. Publican.   ( should this go into the James Nelson thread?).  I hate to bring that name up again. As I’m sure some do as well.  Sorry about that.  Any help woukd  be greatly appreciated.     Dalek 😬

According this site this is the marriage of Emily Nelson to John Taylor
5/1/1863 at the CoI church in Dublin. She was a dressmaker and he was a gentleman. Father was James Nelson a wine merchant.

She later married William Bassett at the Registrar's office in Dublin on 31/5/1873.

Here is the death certificate for John Taylor.

I am not sure why the difficulty in finding these as they were very easy to find on

Is that where you looked?

Luckily Emily Nelson/Taylor/Bassett is listed in 1901 census- born Co. Antrim-
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Wood_Quay/Dean_Street/1345881/

Her two daughters and their families are very easy to trace using civil & church records on Irish Genealogy and Will Extracts.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks  for all that.  You are a marvel at what you find.  I had the details on birth and marriage of Emily Nelson. First marriage to John Taylor. Then widowed. Remarried a William Bassett in Dublin. So I take it she must have moved to Dublin after John Taylor died.  She died in Dublin in (not sure) 1908.  That I have to check.    Thanks anyway.  As I said you areva marvel at your information.  Dalek.

What I’m interested in is the marriage record of Emily Nelson to both John Taylor and William Bassett that her father was James Nelson. ( the dreaded James Nelson) as wine merchant.  on  my Great Grandfathers marriage certificate , James Nelson who married Mary Jane Nelson 1869 in Perth Western Australia.   Father of James.  Publican.  Which is connected with wine …also I have James Nelson Senior in Belfast 1860 as Publican.    Seems coincidental    But as we know can’t always go on assumption
Where I’m having difficulty is my Janes was a convict.  Not a bad man.  Just took a shot at his superior officer in the army and was sentenced to 10 years transportation to Western Australia  in 1861.   Now being a convict all his records of birth etc were expunged so there is no way of finding out his family roots.  Unless there is another way.  I’ve tried the uk archives. Like trying to get into the Tower of London to pinch the Crown Jewels   So when I saw this Emily Nelson birn in Belfast in 1846.  ( James Nelson was born in Shankill Belfast in 1841) I was interested.  Both with father in the wine industry   Sorry about the long story   But I live in hope.  By the way. My James was Church of England.    Dalek.
