Help finding burial record for Annie Blagburn
« on: Tuesday 06 June 23 22:41 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Looking for help locating a burial record for Annie Blagburn. She was my great grandmother’s sister born in 1917 but sadly died in 1918. The family lived in cullercoats at the time. My great grandma used to talk about her having a gravestone but we don’t know where it is.

Any help appreciated - thank you x

Possibly buried at St George, Cullercoats.  Northumberland Archives Service possibly have the church records -

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks BumbleB - typically I was at Northumberland Archives on Saturday! Not sure when I’ll get a chance to visit again but I’ll look up St George when I do.

While you are at the Archives, perhaps ask them whether there might be a cemetery in or near Cullercoats!  Good luck.

Welcome to RootsChat. :)

There were no burials at St George's.  I have covered most of the burials at nearby St Paul (along with others) on Find A Grave so she is not there.
The two other  most likeliest places would be firstly Whitley Bay Cemetery and if not there Preston Cemetery.
Burial records for these are held at North Shields local studies in the North Shields library.  See link for contact info.
I would email the library now and ask them to check the burial volumes for Whitley Bay and Preston to see if there was a burial listed for 1918.  Then you could look up the full entry which would be on a microfilm.
If you can't go I will try to help you when my circumstances next permit but this may not be for several weeks.

Thanks so much River Tyne Lass - I will contact them to ask. I won’t be able to go myself any time soon but might be able to ask one of my family to go.

Thanks for the help everyone - will let you know how I get on!

Yes, please do let us know how you get on. :)
The staff are very helpful and perhaps if you ring now and if they are not too busy they might be able to check the burial volumes straightaway. Then at least you will have an indication about which burial register needs to be checked on microfilm.

They’ve found her listed in the burial register for Whitley Bay, she was living at 6 Mona Terrace, Cullercoats at the time of her death and was 6 months old. It’s definitely her because her parents and siblings are at 6 Mona Terrace in the 1921 census.

She is buried in Section C and her grave number is 858 Consecrated, her entry number is 407.

Next time I’m down I’ll visit to take a look at the records and maybe see if I can find her gravestone. I’m in Edinburgh so will need to wait until I can take a day trip/ weekend.

Thanks so much for your help :)
