1656 burial register inscription
« on: Friday 09 June 23 08:53 BST (UK) »
Good morning,

I am struggling with a few words, etc., in the following inscription.  The Bishop's transcripts are missing, but I don't believe they would help.

September 24 [1656] Richard Jackson of Holdbeck being slayed and found dead ? Howley ? was buried September the 24.

Any help with the ? marks appreciated.

Regards,

Janet

I'm hopeless with this old script but I think I see "... near Howley Parke ...".

There's a Howley Park Rd near Holbeck and have found an 1785 reference to " ... the Earl of Cardigan having a mortgage on several lands at Howley Park and elsewhere at or near Wakefield ...."

Good morning hanes teula,

i would not undersell yourself, the transcription is spot on, which ties in with the reference.

Thank you.

Regards,

Janet
