Smith-banbury
« on: Friday 09 June 23 10:36 BST (UK) »
Hi looking for some help been trying to find my connection to Nehemiah smith Romany line but it’s not easy.
Dna matches would suggest that a descendant of this line is one of my far bk grandparents I think I know wich branch of my tree this occurs.
Im try to find the parents of a Harold smith born in Banbury very scant info
He was married to an Annie friend and had at least one child Dennis born 1926.
Harold is not the missing piece of my story but finding his parents will help me establish where a dna match fits in. Thank you.

According to the 1939 register, Harry's birth would be Sept qtr 1889 (not sure if we're allowed to give the exact date here).

Another child with them in 1939 is Ronald William Harry SMITH  born Sep qtr 1919 Banbury (3a/1664). A possible marriage then - Henry SMITH and Annie FRIEND  Mar qtr 1919 Christchurch (2b/1473). this marriage cert should have his father's name.

Free search of 1921 census
Clattercote, Banbury
Harry Smith 1889 Lower Boddington, Northamptonshire
Annie Smith 1889 Bournemouth, Hampshire
Ronald William Harry Smith 1919 Lower Boddington, Northamptonshire
You would need to see the image to confirm.

That looks promising, if Annie was born Hampshire, the marriage at Christchurch looks more likely.  :D

marriage locator doesn't have a record for the marriage, which sometimes means it occurred at a registry office.

Modified to add:
I may be wrong about that, others with more knowledge about the system may be able to help. However, it's a shame the above website doesn't give a location for their marriage.

Ok thanks again. This will have to go on my to do list by looks of it. My dna matches throw up the usual Romany names but then allways leads bk further down the line to smith. And then the headache begins. Atb

Since the 1921 census says Henry/Harry SMITH was born Lower Boddington, Northanmptonshire, this looks like a likely baptism:
Henry SMITH bap 21 Oct 1889 at Boddington, parents William (labourer) and Mary Ann.
Probable birth registration Sept qtr 1889 Banbury (3a/891) mmn ADKINS. (Lower Boddington is in the Banbury Registration District)

They are relatively easy to find on the censuses,  other children to William and Mary Ann SMITH of Lower Boddington also have mmn ADKINS/ATKINS. William is born c1864 Lower Boddington.

There is a William SMITH and Mary Ann ADKINS on the same page Jun qtr 1882 Banbury (3a/1265).
