John Jones d.1819 Mathon
« on: Monday 12 June 23 17:44 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find a will for John Jones, farmer, from Mathon who died in 1819. Can anyone help please?

Other details are: wife, Hannah Jones, lived until 1860 and farmed in Mathon at Upper House. They had 2 daughters, Hannah (1817) and Harriet (c.1818) who married Thomas Needham.

Thanks!

They also has a daughter Catherine  bap. 13 February 1811  buried 5 September 1833 aged 23

A son William bap. 29 November 1812 buried 20 February 1817 aged 4

Daughter Harriet who married Thomas Needham died 1858 aged 40 registered Ledbury
-----
The mother Hannah Jones listed as 64?  on 1851 census death recorded 1851 age 69 reg. Ledbury.

If they rented the land as tenant farmers there wouldn't be land to inherit. As he died aged 39 an administration is probably all you will find.

Is Harriet really Hannah bap. 2 November 1817 at Mathon.

Perhaps they changed their minds after she was baptized.

Worcester Journal 25 December 1851

To Be Let
From Candlemas next.

An eligible farm containing about 137 acres, 53 acres pasture, 81 acres arable, comprising of excellent orcharding and hop yards, with large and commodious  farm house and buildings in good condition situate in the parish of Mathon in the County of Worcester near Great Malvern, now in the occupation of Mrs. JONES and Mr. NEEDHAM.
There is an unlimited right of pasturage attached to the farm on Malvern Hills and Chase extending over one thousand acres  which adds greatly to its value and an excellent limestone rock and Lime Kilns on the farm.

Either the lease was up and they had to move on, or it was to be sold, auctioneers are named as well as solicitors to be contacted.
Although it does say to be let.

Try and follow the deeds to the land.
