Sarah Wensley
« on: Tuesday 13 June 23 17:55 BST (UK) »
Hi - Our Family Bible was started by my Great Grandfather James Hill b. 19th August 1832 at Rangway, Wellington, Somerset. Listed on a 'Death' page is mentioned a Sarah Wensley with the year of death as 1815. I have searched and searched for the link of this lady to the family with no luck so far. It might help if I say that James' Father was Thomas Hill born 1791 in Somerset and married Elizabeth ? 6 June 1814. James died at Rockwell Green, Wellington, Somerset on 20 May 1857. It would be great if this 'unknown' could be linked in someway to the Hill Family.

Can I ask how clear the writing is?  Could it be something other than "Wensley" or is it very clear?

James must be completing sometime after Sarah Wensley's death - and what was the provenance? Family lore?

FindMyPast has the burial of a -
Sarah Wensley, husband of Ralph, abode Eyre Lane, Sheffield, buried 24 April 1823, age 47, Cathedral Church of St Peter & St Paul

Yet to spot the marriage for this Sarah.

Wensley is a local surname for Wellington and several parishes west and south of Taunton into north Devon.

I’ve looked on FreeREG, Ancestry and FindMyPast and I don’t see a local death for a Sarah Wensley c 1815.
Not seeing any other event except a marriage of a Wensley to Sarah Seller Feb 1815 at N.Petherton, so not a death. Hmm

It is possible that your Sarah W died elsewhere and your scribe has not been able to provide more information to make her connection to your tree obvious.

I have Hartnoll cousins with Wensley maiden side emigrated to NZ … not seeing a suitable Sarah in their trees …

you have inherited a mystery  :)
