Thank you everyone for your help and advice. I am finding Irish records quite a challenge!
I am now trying to force my way back past Thomas and Ann, and have found the following parish entry for a marriage. What are your thoughts? I can't find anything closer in Ancestry or Find My Past. Where else should I be looking?

Ireland, Catholic Parish Registers, 1655-1915 for Anne Hennigan
Name   Anne Hennigan
Gender   Female
Event Type   Marriage
Marriage Date   10 Jun 1849
Marriage Place   Muintervarra, Ireland
Parish Variants   Durrus, Durrus and Kilcrohane, Kilcrohane, Muintervara
Diocese   Cork and Ross
Spouse  Tom Sullivan

Interestingly my Ancestry DNA indicates 31% Irish (Munster, West Cork, Cork Headlands, SW Munster). So at least I know where to concentrate my search!

Massey (London, Woking, Teignmouth), Massie (Banff, Aberdeen - Scotland) Sullivan, O'Sullivan (Kanturk Ireland, London, Woolwich) Mactaggart (Montrose, Angus, Scotland, Singapore), Thornhill (Surrey), Lyall, Walsh, Linehan, Holland, Langton, Armstrong.

Oops! In my excitement this morning, I completely failed to notice that it is the same as the one that you found! ALL CREDIT TO HEYWOOD!!! A Thousand apologies. Your link wasn't through Ancestry and I completely failed to make the match!

Thank you Wexflyer  :)

Guy,
I sent the link through the parish register - not everyone can access through ancestry.
Glad you have it though.  :)

The witnesses are written below the entry for the marriage and look like Margt Connell and Johanna Hoolahan.

Now you will have hours of fun finding out about these people and their possible connection to Ann/e Hennagin!
