HELP. Birth of William CHEERS b 1857, Birkenhead

I have hit a wall with my paternal Great Grandfather: William Cheers born c 1857, Birkenhead, Cheshire near Liverpool.
I can not find any evidence at all of William's birth in the registry or baptism record?

He is listed on the 1861 census aged 4 years, living at 16 Sun Street, Birkenhead with his mother Elizabeth (unmarried) and elder brother Henry age 7. They are living with her parents there.
I have the birth certificate for his brother Henry (born 28 Oct 1853 at 12 Birkenhead Buildings, Tranmere) however no father is listed, just mother Elizabeth.

As always any help or assistance will be gratefully received.

Guessing he doesn't name a father when he gets married? 

It could be he was registered with William as a middle name or the surname is down incorrectly but you have probably checked that

I was about to suggest the same Daisy.  Nothing after that so you could take a chance on the birth certificate to see if mother was Elizabeth.

There's Mary Ann Cheers as well Sep 1861 Liverpool - no mothers maiden name

I think it may well be him  - 'Julian' and 'William'  do sound very similar. I will order the birth cert. thank you
