Yes that's the death I have pegged for him.  I got the certificate many years ago and Sarah was the informant.  Didn't give her relationship to James.

As you say that pushes his birth year back somewhat.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

There seem to be two possible marriages for James Hinchliff
4 Nov 1816, Kirkburton, to Sarah Wood
7 April 1817, Kirkburton, to Sarah Wimpenny

I am kind of leaning to the Wimpenny one :-\

Yes Rosie she is in 1851 age 55 as a widow born Kirkburton with some of her children and remarries in 1854.
In 1861 she is with second husband William Woodhead at Cumberworth then dies before 1871.
I don't know her parents either as frustratingly no father is named when she remarries but that's for another topic.

There are quite a lot in the register whose fathers are not named, including William. Perhaps they weren't naming any fathers who were dead.

Thanks for posting jonw65.

Yes there were a couple of candidates for Sarah but when someone helped me years ago she plumped for the Wood one so I went along with that but was never 100% sure.

There was a baby Eliza baptised to a James & Sarah later in Nov 1816 so if the earlier marriage was her parents they left it pretty late.  The baby died so couldn't follow that up.

Will have another look at the Wimpenny option.

Now that's interesting.  I often wondered why he didn't name a father either when he named one at his first wedding.  You could well be right about the fathers being deceased.  It is frustrating when that one name would have told us who Sarah was.
