What happened to Harry Robinson b. 1896 went to India
« on: Friday 16 June 23 17:40 BST (UK) »
Dear all,

I have a famous family mystery concerning my great uncle Harry Robinson who mysteriously disappeared that I would be very grateful if someone had a look at, though it might be very difficult. Harry Robinson was born in Rochdale in 1896 to Richard James Robinson and Eliza Ann nee Greenfield. He was the second oldest and brother to Arthur, Albert, Frank, Ernest, Leonard, Nora, Edith, Norman, Eric and Allen. The family moved to Twickenham c. 1912, so I decided to put it here instead of under Lancashire. Harry cannot be located anywhere since the 1901 census in Rochdale (1911 is missing for some reason), and the story I was told is that he 'went to India and was never seen again, until someone spotted him driving around Southport in a Rolls Royce'. The story has always fascinated me and I'd like to see if it would be possible to try and see if it's true and what happened to Harry.

Best wishes,
FG

Not sure that it is him  :-\

The article states he has been in India for the last 2 years - he was a Lance Corporal with the Lancashire Fusiliers.  He played as wicket keeper for Rochdale at the age of 15

Possibly the same chap travels to Bombay in 1922 - merchant aged 26 of Alixholme, Bamford, Lancs (which I believe is in Rochdale area)

The Robinsons first appear on the electoral register in Twickenham in 1918. No sign of Harry with them at all. The family can be found in 1921, oldest child living with them is Frank b 1900. Arthur is still in Rochdale and Albert appears to be in East Grinstead

There  is a war record for a Harry Robinson, mother Eliza of 9, Hampton Terrace, Rochdale.
On FindMyPast

Only thing is he is a Fitter, and on 1911 your man works for an insurance company.
1911 does not have any Robinsons at 9, Hampton terrace.

Added.. definitely not your man.  The family are at that address in 1921.

Harry is with his parents & brother Albert on 1920/21 electoral registers at 13 Bonser Road, Twickenham. Parents and Albert there in 1922 no Harry.
