Trying to find parents of William New
« on: Saturday 17 June 23 07:45 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Could someone please assist me in regard to the birth of William New b. 1836 at Kingstone Lisle, Berkshire, he died at Bexley Heath, London on the 26.10.1914.  It appears that he was the son of a John New and Mary ?   We have records showing that William was raised by another family member and eventually he became a School Master, his Father later believed to be a Butler/Steward for the Duke of Argyl in London.

Just need to confirm the correct parents with their dates and places of birth.
Thanking you for any assistance you may be able to provide me with.

As a matter of interest does William's 2nd marriage to Grace Ada Turtle in 1890 also record his father as John New & whether he is deceased.

Possible 1st marriage of John New/Mary Ann Earl ( widow)28.2.1827.

1871 census records John as Unmarried
1881 census records John as married.

Again possible 2nd marriage to Jane Enscoe 1873 Kensington

There are 20+ trees on Ancestry that have John New born 1813 in Wantage, Berkshire. From Wantage baptisms birth given as 22 Jul, baptised 24 Oct, s/o John and Sarah.

Unmarried in 1851 and 1861, latter in Argyll House, Kensington.

If John New was his father he died jq 1889 aged 75 in Kensington. Probate with will record attached.
Jane appears in 1891 censusand died 1895 aged 94 Kensington. She too left a probate record.

John

added, his will may name William New?

Thank you all for your input.  I do apologise for my non response for a few hours, had trouble getting back on to Rootschat.  We live in Australia.

Several of us have been researching this John New, what surprises us is that if this John New married Mary Ann Earl in 1827, this would make John New only 13 years of age when he married Mary, she would have been 16, seems hard to believe !

We have this information on their marriage in Kensington, London and then son William New is born in 1836 at Kingstone Lisle, Berkshire.  John is then back in London working as a Steward/Butler.

The interesting thing is that John New is also called John Hyde New in one of the censuses, that seems logical, as his Grandmother was Elizabeth Hyde (Hide) married to Joseph New at Kingstone Winslow.

Guess we need to get further information on correct date of birth of John New before we can go further.

We have much information on William New and his life with first wife Anna and then 2nd wife Grace Turtle.   Thank you all.
