Trying to find parents of William New

Now in regard to John New and Sarah Wotten, wondering if you have any information on their deaths.  Am trying to work down the family line now.

Interesting that William New in 1841 census living with the Hazel family, aged 4 years, with William and Sophia Hazel and their own son aged 14 years.    William Hazel was living by Independent means, so obviously he was able to pay for his schooling at private school.

What happened to John and Sarah Wotten, the young child's parents, one wonders.

A William Hazel was one of the witnesses at Joseph NEW and Elizabeth HYDE's marriage in 1773 in Ashbury.

He was a witness at more that one marriage so may have been the parish clerk.

We now have a marriage certificate for John New and Jane Enscoe, which shows John's Father as a China Merchant as his occupation, (not deceased) .   They were married by license in 1873 at the Parish Church, Kensington  Middlesex.   John's address was Argyle Lodge,65 Earls Court Road his occupation a Steward.    Probate records show he had a son William New who was born 1836, but the marriage certificate shows John as a Bachelor (he may have lied on that fact).

My query now is in regard to John New and Sarah Wotten's life, if he was a China Merchant, would that mean a Hawker or an international trade dealer.

John NEW of Wantage, Berks married Sarah WOTTON otp by licence at Marlborough, Wiltshire on 14 Jun 1812.

Just to add to "Ian C" entry; the marriage licence reads;

John New, 21, bac, Earthenware  Dealer, of Wantage,Berks to
Sarah Wootton, 21, sp, of Marlborough St.Mary, Wilts
B/Man; Robert Fox, Earthenware Dealer, Marlborough

Yes thank you for this, would say John New was most likely just a dealer.   If only we could find the deaths of either of these two, John New and his wife Sarah.   There were no children born to their marriage after 1819, so maybe Sarah died and John New moved elsewhere.  Thank  you.
