Need help with Irish families
« on: Saturday 17 June 23 09:23 BST (UK) »
Hello

I need help with finding two families please.

We have found a Scottish Marriage Cert for 1874. The groom is Patrick Fallen son of Bridget Fallen (ms Fallen) and Denis Fallen. Both came from Sligo in the 1860s. We think they were married in 1842 in Sligo town so a grandparent said. Would be grateful for help. We've found nothing about them so far.

The bride was Bridget May daughter of Bryan May a blacksmith, and Bridget Clark or Cleary. We cannot find anything about them and once again would be grateful for any help going.

Thanks for reading.

I should have said that I have checked the 1861 census oneards for place of birth but it says "Irekand" in all censuses. The Fallen's and May's were Roman Catholics.
Iam trying to find the Fallen and May marriages in Ireland.

thanks

Welcome to Rootschat.

I can see this couple in 1881. Are they your family?
Patrick Fallon 28 yrs Rivetter b Ireland
Bridget 30 yrs b Ireland
With children living in Govan.
Do you have them in earlier censuses?

The online parish registers start at 1858 for marriages-
https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0550
However, it looks like there might be transcripts  starting in 1831 (pay site)-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

A question please

Would a marriage entry for 1842 just give bride and grooms name and date or would parents names also be recorded generally?

generally the date, names of couple, possibly names of witnesses and maybe an address
