Bilston Cemetery Chapel (formerly Staffordshire)
« on: Saturday 17 June 23 15:08 BST (UK) »
This is my first post on a forum, so please bear with.

My hero ancestor Harry Park Temple is buried in an unmarked grave in Bilston Cemetery since 1929. I have found his plot and would now love to know if anyone has a photograph of the little chapel in the cemetery that was pulled down around 1950's.
Help most appreciated.

Hello Sunny Summers and welcome to RootsChat.

Is this the chapel? Perhaps contacting the facebook page owner may provide a better copy of the photo, or where it came from?

Welcome to Rootschat

He was born 1901 & was only 27 when he died.  Does not appear to have married.  I have just read the report of his death on the tree on Ancestry.  How sad when you read what he did yet he has an unmarked grave.

Hi Carol and thank you for the welcome. I'm still finding my way around!
Harry Park Temple was my gran's cousin.
You can read all about what happened here -  https://www.expressandstar.com/news/Features/2023/06/17/hero-harry-to-finally-get-a-headstone-after-94-years/
This was posted 17th June. Unfortunatlely it contains a lot of typos and some errors.
The funeral was on the 26th Jan not 28th
Harry's last ship was the Repulse - not the Repose.
Hope you find it of interest.
I will post details of the memorial service nearer the date next year.

Thank you for posting that article.  What a turnout for his funeral.   It is wonderful that his grave will finally have a headstone & he gets the recognition he deserves

Thank you.
Everyone has been so kind and helpful, especially the Wilkinsons.
I hope the memorial service next year will do him proud.

Thanks from me too for posting the  article, I did look up some newspaper reports of the time, very sad reading. Pleased to hear a headstone and memorial are being organised all these years later.
