The 1851 transcript I added is from Ancestry. The original image will be on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

FreeCen also show the family surname as Colville in 1851 as www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/5a14ff83f4040b9d6e093d75/edward-colville-1851-lanarkshire-bothwell-1808-?locale=en

Scotlands People also show it this way. Must have been the way it was actually written up by the enumerator.

How about this entry for 1851 with the surname mistranscribed?

Edward Colville 43 Engineer b. Shotts, Lanarkshire
Anne Colville 52 b. Bothwell, Lanarkshire
Margaret Colville 23 house servant, b. Bothwell, Lanarkshire
Barbara Colville 17 sewing, b. Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire
Isabella Colville 13 sewing, b. Falkirk, Stirlingshire

Address Mrs Pettiggrew Road, Chappelhall, Bothwell

Monica

The above does look good, one problem is In 1851 COLLIGHAN   Margaret    23   was with Agnes Cleland   Cambusnethan, her aunt but it could be a double entry.
I could find no trace of Barbara in 1851 and the age above is about right.

I cannot find a marriage for the Colville's and no baptism in Falkirk for Isabella.

Certainly a good find and possibility.

Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

I think it looks like a good possibility but there is a daughter Isabella with them in this census who wasnt in the 1841 and I can’t find a birth for her either. I will definitely look deeper into this one thank you

I can add another puzzle for you ............from ancestry, 1871 census john and ellen colligan have nephew, john colligan age 16 living with them........in 1881 census holytown, helen witten down (ellen colligan) has nephew john cooper living with her age 26   this nephew is Margaret colligan's son......Margaret was deserted by husband john cooper.......married him as margaret colvile.......in poor law records her parents are edward and ann............. also in a 1841 census for helen colligan, it possible margaret living with her then as well age 21...........this all from ancestry and following the hints to try and track people through the census.........i am sure i seen john and ellen/helen written down as colville/colvile and colvine as well, i will have to go back and check that though.............so going from this jumble of info, edward's family and john's family must be related somehow..............also interesting is there is an archibald colligan married to an ann cleland as well, but dont know if that little snippet is connected as yet....................good luck, i know i need it trying to figure all this out!
