Surprise visit just now. Man from the Water Board called to fit Water Meter. Well it was only last week when I paid my monthly bill that I agreed to have a meter fitted- probably halve my monthly payment- and was told that it could be up to 60 working days before it was fitted, at which time the payments would change.
Twenty minutes ago the doorbell rang "Come to fit your water meter sir". and having identified my stopcock in the footpath outside the property, the job was done in less than five minutes.
Now how's that for service? :D

Glad you’ve found a good new site Elizabeth. I’d heard about sites being a bit sniffy about older vans.
RJ that’s impressive service from the water people and a really good photo of you from your box brownie. My mother had one of those ( we still have it) and she took virtually all the photos as she hated being on them. I tried to use the camera under her tuition, but I never got the hang of it. My first 35mm camera was a Boots brand one. I loved it.
LM did your car come back all beautifully serviced and not too much of a blip in the finances?

CF, my car has  been returned,  a HUGE  blip in my finances to be honest, but hey ho, no pockets in shrouds, we don't normally have a yearly service and at the price charged we wont have one every year,  we only drive locally now.

My husband took a selfie on his old camera in 1961 I think it was , my mum called it the sheik of arabi, goodness knows why, he had pinned a sheet up, not ironed I might add, nice picture but a shame about the background , he must have rigged the camera up somehow.

Well after yesterday morning , pitch-black almost at 7am it is quite the reverse today and it hot already, a happy medium would be nice.

Jeff, when we looked  into  having a water metre the engineer wanted to put the metre at the back of a kitchen cupboard,  only accessible  on ones knees, I told him I didn't  want the reader laying  on my floor to read the metre, or me for that matter, what a daft idea, we didn't have the meter.

Keep cool those who are suffering  from today's heat

Surprised they wanted to fit a water meter indoors LM. When we had ours fitted about fifteen years ago, it was installed in the pavement on the edge of our property. All the other properties had them installed in similar places  on change of occupancy. No need for a meter reader to enter any of the houses.

It made a big difference in reducing our water bill, even more so now I’m the sole occupant.

My water meter is under the kitchen sink. It is read remotely from outside the house.

Definitely cut the bill down.

I’ve wondered about a water meter but I wish you could do it on a try it out basis and then if it doesn’t work out cheaper, you could go back to the old way. We try not to use excessive water, but we do still wash our own cars and windows by ourselves so that will use more than usual. I haven’t watered the grass, but I did water our new rose which seems to be ok at the minute. I’m hoping it might flower later and I can try to post a photo of it on here, though I still have difficulty posting photos on rc. Despite the best of help, they always seem to have to be renamed three times and then they’re too big and have to be resized. I can post on fb and WhatsApp really easily but here I find it a challenge. I think it’s partly because I read rc on this iPad as it’s bigger font than on a phone and my eyesight likes the larger. I’ll still persevere though .

My water meter was installed March 2010 and I’ve never regretted it.

There was a cooling off period at the time and according to the web there still is.

In my water area, it says there is a switchback but no details of how or the reasons you can switch back , time period etc, not even in the terms and conditions ,  whereas other water authorities are clearer about it, also citizens advice page as I'd looked at that too. Glad you have found it beneficial.
