Rev David Ferguson and Mary Lister (Mayo / Waterford)
« on: Monday 19 June 23 22:21 BST (UK) »
Hi all

I am trying to find more details about David Ferguson and Mary Lister
David was born 1816 and died 8th Feb 1887 - his father was called James
Mary was born 1823 and died 18th Dec 1909 - her father was called James
There is a gravestone in Portlaw (Guilcagh) Cemetery, County Waterford but it appears illegible

David was presbyterian minister in Portlaw for 32 years but at the time of his marriage to Mary he was minister in Belderrig. He married Mary in Turlough on 17 Dec 1848

That's all I have but I would like to find the mothers of David or Mary if possible

thanks
Andrew

It was December 27, 1849, here is the civil registration for readers of your topic:

Is this one of the witnesses to that marriage (Charles Robt. Lister, maybe a brother of Mary) marrying a Susan Warren in the same church on 9 July 1850?

Just a possibility that the following is a sister to Mary, Delia, marrying an Andrew Gallagher on 4 December 1846, this time in the Church of Ireland:

Thanks - I'll dig through those links and see what I can find

I think I just mis-translated the date of the wedding, I have also found this entry from The Ballina Chronicle, January 2, 1850.

Married - On the 27th ult., at Turlo Meeting house, by the Rev. J. Hamilton, Presbyterian Minister, the Rev. David Ferguson, Presbyterian Minister of Bealderig, to Mary, youngest daughter of the late Mr. James Leister, of Turlo.

I've assumed the spelling "Lister" as some children carry than spelling as middle names

Freeman's Journal, 30 November 1886: The death is announced of Mr. Andrew Ferguson, brother of the Rev. David Ferguson, of Portlaw, for forty years an elder, sixty-four years a Sabbath-school teacher, and over fifty years a Sabbath-school superintendent in Ballygoney Presbyterian Church.  He died at Ballygoney in the eighty-fourth years of his age.

Death registration below, son John S. Ferguson was the informant:

The following looks like a possible candidate for that son, marrying an Annie Henderson in 1871 in Maghera Presbyterian Church, maybe a clue in his middle name - Stewart:

Thanks again, it's good to add more information to what I have

I agree that Charles Robert Lister is a likely brother - did you notice the witness on his marriage record, it looks like Issac W Lister, also of Turlough

Not so sure about the Delia Lister or how the different churches / religions affects things - her father James is listed as a gentleman, on the other records I believe it says Farmer

The grave is interesting - the dates fit and it makes sense that further children would be called Mary and James after the infant deaths

I've yet  to get onto the Ferguson links  :)
