Hi Trish1120, my taking on that census is that Annie is the daughter of George Beardsley. In brackets it says occupation farmers assistant "son", Annie Spencer farmers assistant "grand daughter".

George Beardsley baptised 15.3.1857, born 6.10.1856, son of Mary Anne & William of Handley Shottle

He appears in 1939 with same dob and dies 1944, leaving a probate record.

George went on to marry a Hannah Sims 22nd March 1899.  Hannah Beardsley died 18.12.1918. left a probate record mentioning husband George. No children according to 1911 census to George and Hannah

1891/1911/1921 records Georges birthplace as Shottle

Just adding that in 1901 census Thomas H Sleath, Annie Sleath and Mary L(Lucy) Sleath are living next door to George H Morral and Mary Morral (Mary died aged 74 in 1938)

This is my conclusion too - Annie was the illegitimate daughter of George Beardsley and Mary Elizabeth Spencer  - Mary Elizabeth Spencer being the daughter of William[typo] John, son of Philip and Eliza who she is with on the 1881 census and correctly described as their g-daur (Annie being their great-g-daur). Mary Morrel was George's brother, living together in 1921, so the family was close.

What evidence have you found that Mary Elizabeth Spencer c 1864 is the daughter of William Spencer son of Philip. William married Emma Shipley in 1867
