In the same place to these parents, there also shows the following children:

1788 - Alexander
1790 - Janet
1798 - Elizabeth
1802 - William
1805 - Marion
1810 - George

FreeReg - https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_queries/6494b375b620e0565f473020?locale=en

I examined all those documents - one surprise was for Alexander in 1788 - His parents are detailed as George Scott and Janet LECH ... so maybe a different couple

Regarding witnesses, there were several instances of John Denham and one of William Denham
There is a David Thomson and Alexander Thomson
Also a Thomas Scott - Janet Scott's father was named John, so maybe a brother

Banns were read in the parishes that the groom and bride were living in (doesn't mean that is where they were born).

From the registers, you would need to view the actual images to see what were banns and which was the marriage entry. I would guess that the entries you have seen would likely be the banns as the date is the same.

Scotlands People have it as:

ALEXANDER THOMSON
Parents GEORGE THOMSON/JANET SCOTT
27/07/1788
Ref 703 20 / 55
Athelstaneford

This entry is important. With George and Janet's marriage the year before in 1787, the naming of Alexander likely will be important (could be the name of George or Janet's father if they following Scottish naming pattern).

Added:  :P Janet's father we have as John!

We are now getting into speculative ground  ::)

I saw this entry earlier and wondered if this could connect to George, Thomas's father www.freereg.org.uk/search_queries/6494bb054325a636cbfc4659?locale=en

SP have 5 children showing for Alexander Thomson and Mainy Simm (remember that the OPRs can be patchy).

Not familiar with the first name Mainy and can't see possible variants so far for it (great site for checking www.whatsinaname.net/php/search.php?action=search2&search_name=mainy)

Definitely possibilities to keep in pencil for now.

I was just looking at that myself

George Thomas b 29/04/1766 to Alexander Thomas and Mainy Simm (or Simme)
That would make George 21 when he married in 1787

They also had an Alexander b 04/01/1770 and a daughter Mainy Thomas b 21/03/1768
