James Palmer born 1826 died 1856 Newcastle-upon-Tyne
« on: Thursday 22 June 23 11:18 BST (UK) »
I am researchng James Palmer who died on 20th June 1856 at 49 George Street Westgate Newcastle. The death certificate states that he was 30 years old.
James was the father of a number of children by Eleanor Bridgewood although I have not found a marriage entry. I cannot find a James Palmer in either the 1841 or the 1851 census for Newcastle so I have not made much progress. James has a son, also called James, who was born and died in 1856.
I was hoping to find some sort of burial record which might give me some information about him.
Without a marriage certificate it is not easy to find his parents names. The later family were all workers in the steel works.
I have tried Freecen and all the big sites for information. It may be that James was not his birth name but I have tried variations and still come up with nothing.
I really do not know where else to look and any suggestions would be welcome.
Thank you.

Is there an occupation on the children’s birth certificates?

"James was the father of a number of children by Eleanor Bridgewood "

Can you name the children...date and place of birth.

Do you have a birth certificate for any of the children.

What happened to Eleanor and the children after James died, 1856.

What was cause of his death.

What was his occupation.

James was described as a smelter and as a lead works labourer. Sorry I should have given this information.

I can see these Palmer/Bridgewood births
William 1853 - Gateshead
Mary Jane 1855 - Gateshead - possible death 1857 aged 2 yrs
James 1856 Newcastle - death 1856

Are there other children?

1861 3815 /68/17

William ‘Pammer’, 7 yrs is with Jane Bridgewood and family as ‘daur’s son’. No sign of Eleanor with them.

There were 3 children, Mary Jane born 1855 died aged 4 hours,  James born 1856 died 8 months and William born 1853 wh survived and was brought up by Eleanor's sister, Margaret Bridgewood later Miller. The only later information I have about Eleanor is in 1861 when she is an assistant nurse at Newcastle Infirmary. In the records I have post 1851 she always calls herself Palmer.
When Mary Jane was born in 1855 the family were living at Felling shore. In 1853, William was born in Gateshead.

james senior's death was registered by  Margaret Bridgewood, 49, George St, Westgate, as was bay James' death in Dec 1856. James birth was registered by his grandmother Jane Bridgewood in may 1856. The Bridgewood's were obviously a close family.
The surviving son William lived with his maternal family until he married in 1873.

Do you have the birth certificates for the three PALMER children born to Eleanor Bridgewood.

Who is the informant?

Do you have the death certificate for James and Mary Jane who died as infants?
