Hi
Looking for any information on a man called Robert Liddle.
I think he was born as Robert 'Little' Mawson on the 2nd September 1883 (I don't have birth certificate, detail from registrars).
I can find him, as Robert Liddle, on the 1901 census, living in 36 Malings Rigg, with his mother (I'm guessing), Mary Mawson, born c1833 and widowed, a Job Mawson, born 1871, and, Bertie Liddle, born c1882 - all the children are listed as 'sons' and Job is married.
There is a British Army Service Record (DLI) dated 19th February 1899, for a Robert Liddle, who gives his address as 36 Malings Rigg.
The signature on it matches almost perfectly to his signature in 1910, where he stood as a witness at the marriage of John Thomas McKenna and Ann Wilson Kelly.
Ann's address was given as 31 Malings Rigg.
The following year, the census finds him boarding with Ann's parents, Charles Kelly and his wife, Jane (nee Simmons) in 31 Malings Rigg.
I have also found a British Merchant Seaman Record (1918) for a Robert Liddle - date of birth given as 6th September 1883.
By 1939 he was widowed and with his brother, Bertie (date of birth from the 1939 register as 6th December 1881), Robert's date of birth was given as 5th September 1883.
However, I can't trace, Mary Mawson, Job or Bertie and Robert Liddle prior to 1901, although I think I may have found Bertie's baptism as Conartunate Bert Mawson, born 1881 and baptised 30th May 1889, father Joanes Mawson.
Robert, I believe, was baptised the same day as Conartunate Robertus Little Mawson.
But no sign on any census?
Sue
