St . Clement Danes , Westminster
« on: Friday 23 June 23 20:36 BST (UK) »
Approx . 4 years ago , I had recorded a mrg . between John Bevil and Mary Ann Skinner on 18 Jun 1795 at St . Clement Danes . I have spent today looking through my paper records for the source ( pos . from an Ancestry membership at the time  ? ) as I have just returned from London and the Strand area in general ( inc . St . Martin in the Fields ) . I've not found the source of this info . and therefore appealing to someone here for ' back up ' of the record .
I believe at the same time I recorded a brl . for John on 20 Mar 1830 aged 56 y at S.C.D giving then a birth date of approx . 1774 . His wife Mary Ann Skinner is shown as a resident of S.C.D . and I've marked it as ref . mrg . transcription . .
Could anyone ( pos . with a subsciption to Ancestry ) support this info . or add pos . parents / dates/ siblings that also might be available ( pos . sister Elizabeth  bp . 12 Jun 1796 St . Martin in the Fields ) .
I had wanted to get to the Westminster Archives for further research but time was against me and am looking to build a little more info . before visiting the area again next month .
I would'nt want it to become time consuming for any pos . help and thank you in advance for any help and advice .
Could I also ask for any thoughts as to why a son John Bevil bp . 21 Jan 1798 would be bp . in Edward the Confessor church , Romford ( miles away from the area and probably difficult to get to at the time ) . John mentioned here , has become something of a mystery with surname changes
( Melville ) , pos . bigamy , many run ins with authority etc.. and which has led to many topcs and threads on Rootschat .
Thankyou again .

There is a marriage bond allegation dated 17 Jun 1795 and then the actual marriage in the parish register on page 128 (with their signatures) on the 18 Jun 1795.
Census & BMD information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

https://www.londonlives.org/search.jsp?form=persNames&fromYear=1753&_persNames_surname=bevill&match_sur=metaplus&fromMonth=00&start=100

It looks like the son had been stealing from his father.

John Bovill born 1774 (or could be 1771 the last digit is a bit iffy) son of John Bovill wheelwright admitted as Freeman of City of London 1800/1
1790 Poll book Westminster John Bevill/Bovill Milford Lane corn factor

Children of John and Mary Ann I can see
Elizabeth Ilif  24 April/12 June 1796 St Martins i F, and as you said John William at Romford 21.1.1798.

Of course I can't be sure the first lot of Bevills John and Elizabeth and that family are the parents of John who married Mary Ann Skinner.

I'll see what else i can dig up.

Well thank you for that .
I should say I'm not 100 % sure the two families match up.
I can't see a death for John Bovill senior and a nice juicy Will which would clinch it.
And I am a bit worried about this chap.
Benjamin Bevill corn merchnat 1841 census  Milford Lane

bapt 15 Jan 1776 St Saviour Southwick -no parents given and much of 1767-1781 register unreadable.

He is buried Wimbledon 23 Jan 1864

It just seems a bit of a coincidence.
But your John Bovill /Bevill the younger definitely has a father John Bovill /Bevill the elder.

All the best with your trip

Again sterling effort so thankyou for your time .
I found Benjamin on Londonlives yesterday and have tried to piece together his and the other info . found . What a great site . Benjamin now interests me and may lead me in research to a deffo . family connection .

The Bovill / Bevil ( and variants of the name ) are known at Millford Lane and so I believe ( not because it suits ) that he maybe a brother to John ( the elder ) , we'll see in time .
Again its something to look for in Westminster Archives and a possible thread I never had a few days ago . Millford Lane is a very small lane off of St . Clement Danes and it is to much of a coincidence to believe the surname similarity isn't the same family .
The son ( John Bevil ) bp . Romford seems to have been a ' bit of a lad ' through his life and created much disc . on here in the last 10 years over many posts . A Walter Mitty second life and pos . mrg .  ( Melville ) has been documented by various posts . Alongwith many brushes with the courts regarding failures in his many businesses in the London area and Cheltenham ( pos . Oxford ) , he seems to have died in Walthamstow and bur . at Nunhead . I have pieced together much of his two lives , photographed sites of houses , workplaces etc..( and had to fill in odd pos . gaps  ) .

Thankyou again . If anything pops up in the future regarding the Bevil / Skinner connection in the immediate area , I hope you remember me as it may be of interest .
