Looking for an elusive baptism entry for Ralph Adams b ca 1783 - buried 21 Jan 1858 • St James, St Pancras, Camden, England.

All of the research has been done by a now deceased genealogist, so I cannot verify in all cases where all the sources of the information came from. Trying to be as comprehensive as possible in describing the wider family here.

On the 1851 census, he is listed as living in Chads Row, St Pancras, London & Middlesex, England, occupation: Tile & Brick Maker
This lists his birthplace as Middlesex, Hendon, aged 68.

He is in the 1841 census St Pancras, Gray's Inn Lane, aged 55. 1841 censuses only listed whether born within the county or not.

He married Elizabeth Weaver, 5 Apr 1814 • St. Sepulchre, London, England

His father was Thomas Adams and Ralph was in partnership with his father Thomas and brother William, as Tile and Brick Merchants, of Gray's Inn Lane, Thomas Adams and Sons (This is apparently in an 1811 London directory). When Ralph's father, Thomas, died in 1813 (burial 18 Jul 1813 • St Pancras, Old Church Graveyard, Middlesex), the firm appears to have been in business for about 8 years under the name Thomas Adams and Sons in the Gray's Inn Lane area. The partnership with brother William then dissolved in 1818 and Ralph continued the business in his own name for many years thereafter. Ralph's mother, Ann, was buried in the same grave as her husband, 10 Apr 1836 • St Pancras Parish Chapel, Camden, England. No marriage entry has been pinpointed for certain for his parents, due to the common names.

None of the other brothers and sisters of Ralph were baptised in Hendon. Possibly in Hampstead and two baptisms confirmed in Holborn from the original research.

baptised at St John at Hampstead to Thomas & Ann Adams:
James Adams bap. 21 Oct 1774
William Welch Adams bap. 12 May 1776
Ann Adams bap.11 Jul 1780
Elizabeth Adams bap. 7 May 1780
Thomas Adams bap. 15 Sep 1782

Of these Hampstead baptisms, William & Thomas roughly match the known dates of birth in the original research. The other children, who have only recently been discovered by an ancestry search, were not in the original research, and may have died in infancy. Not a lot is known about them as yet. At this stage it has been postulated that these are the correct baptisms, as the William Adams in the original research had a child who married, in 1858, known as Isaac Welch Adams, to Martha Jane Smith, St. Paul, Hammersmith, Middlesex, England - his 2nd marriage (widowed on marriage entry). It's postulated he also took his father's middle name.

Ralph ca 1783 (unknown) possibly baptised later in childhood, but no Hendon baptism record exists
Sarah ca 1788 (unknown)

Abraham Adams 19 Jan 1794 • Holborn St Andrew, Middlesex, England, of Gray's Inn Lane, Holborn, Middlesex
Isaac Adams 24 Apr 1796 • Holborn St Andrew, Middlesex, England, of Gray's Inn Lane, Holborn, Middlesex

The Holborn baptisms are confirmed in the original research.

Ralph's father, Thomas Adams, was possibly baptised 1 Dec 1746 in Hemel Hempstead to Ralph Adams & Elizabeth Kendall, according to the original research.

There were a William & Mary Adams married in Hendon in 3 Jul 1774, who may have been related to Ralph's father, Thomas, and perhaps the family were living with them when Ralph was born, which would explain the 1851 census entry, but Ralph must have been baptised elsewhere, if indeed the record still exists at all.

Ralph Adams was buried 21 Jan 1858 • St James, St Pancras, Camden, England, aged '73 years'

There's a marriage for a Thomas Adams and an Ann Welch on 24 August 1772 at St Marylebone. They could be parents of the Hampstead brood, but may not be your Thomas and Ann.
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

The "Welch" may well be the key to this, Lizzie. As the son, William  it appears, was given the middle name Welch, you could very well be correct. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Lizzie, all that exists are details of the will by the genealogist who researched the family. I've been asked not to make the details of the research public. I can send via a PM.
