Both, you can see grey hair just beneath the hat which is much darker. You can see a ribbon from the hat curled round over the shoulder onto her dress.

I agree with Carol, on the original it looks like a hate

the family seems to like wearing all these old head pieces. All the women in the photos I have, seem to wear head pieces. Not sure if it was just the time period or a family thing
