OS map, 1920, 25 inch including Quebec in the lower right quadrant, and showing the positions of the Wesleyan and Primitive Methodist Chapels.

What a howler! I see now it's under "Durham" at top of thread.
Although I did get a Hamsteels "hit" against the Canadiana database.

I just took a look at Quebec on StreetView, to make a comparison with the OS map that I linked to.

Going east along Front Street from the junction with Steadman's Lane, St John the Baptist's church is still there, the Drill Hall is now the Village Hall, the Institute (Hamsteels Colliery Institute on the plaque) is a private house, but the Wesleyan Chapel is gone, replaced by a modern bungalow.  There is a road called Church View heading north from Front Street, but no sign of the Primitive Methodist Chapel: the area where it was looks to be allotments.

I’m sure that’s all very interesting  ;D but have you discovered yet which circuit it was in?

HT and me: a double act.

This link will take you to an online copy of "Hall's Circuits and Ministers: 1765-1912"

Quote
This work lists all the Wesleyan Methodist Circuits from the beginning of the sytem in 1765, and very usefully notes how Circuits divided and merged over time.

I've already tried looking for quite a few place names in the vicinity of Hamsteels and Quebec and have come up blank. Durham was from Sunderland, Crook was from Bishop Auckland. Maybe you will have better luck. Warning: the listings are split, alphabetically, across nine pdf documents, but these are searchable.

Maybe I'm reading it wrongly, but that book seems to give the names of the Circuits, but not the individual churches within each circuit?
