54 Co. R.G.A casemates Gibralter
« on: Sunday 25 June 23 19:30 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace a William Arthur Oliver Pinchin's (dob 1879 Wiltshire) military records.  I think that he was probably not in the 1st WW but prior to it.  He married an Elizabeth Jane (no surname) and they had two children Florence May b.1909 and Audrey Lilian b. 1914, both I think in Gibralter.

In the 1911 census his wife and daughter are listed as follows: - Florence May and Elizabeth J - 1911 England & Wales Census Gender Female Birth Circa 1910 Gibraltar Residence 2 April 1911 54 Co: R G A, Casemates Gibraltar, Overseas military, England Institution description: 54 Company Royal Garrison Artillery.    Elizabeth is listed as being born in Llandrindod Wells, Radnorshire, Wales.

Could anyone explain to me what 'casemates' means and if it is relevant.  I have searched all the ancestry sites in military section but cannot find anything.  No birth records for daughters or marriage for wife and William.

You'll see that the army knew him as Arthur Pinchin, born Cheltenham (RGA number 796).
