Female Christian name.
« on: Monday 26 June 23 18:41 BST (UK) »
I have a female ancestor born in 1784 with a Christian name written in parish registers variously as: Savill, Scivel, Seevil, Seville and Seivilla. Does anyone know of a female name from this period that fits any of these as I'm puzzled?
Thank you.

Are the names from census transcriptions?
Where was she born?
What name is on her marriage/death entry?

A possible classical source?

The mother of Brutus (assassin of Julius Caesar) was Servilia.

I'm wondering if this is some form of Sibyl/Sibylle/Sybille ? (Spanish 'v' is pronounced more like a 'b' I believe, so perhaps the scribe copied a written name rather than what he heard?)

Presume you are referring to the Shropshire entry as the 1841 shows her as Scivell but b 1791.  The image is Savill.  She was born Shropshire

Thank you all for your thoughts.

It was indeed the lady from Shropshire, and I was hoping that someone had met the name before and could give me the correct spelling and pronunciation.
