Adoption prior 1930

Hi all,

This is a little bit of a vague question, I'm afraid.. but don't have much to go on here, so bear with me!

A friend of mine has stated that she believes her grandmother had been adopted and that her grandmother had been born in Malta (but even granny wasn't certain of her exact birthplace!). She had been raised in Dundee and had been born in 1927. Apart from Ancestry dna etc kits. Can anyone signpost her to key sources that may establish if her grandmother was born in Malta and had been adopted by Scottish adoptive parents?

You could look for a Scottish birth for her to rule it out.

Bit hard to say without a name, but you should certainly check the births on Scotland's People as she could have been adopted after 1930, or an informal adoption may have been formalised after 1930.

If there was a formal adoption you will not be allowed to see the papers about it.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
