Signing the Marriage Register in Guernsey
« on: Tuesday 27 June 23 15:16 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can anyone tell me when the bride and groom started to sign the marriage register in Guernsey please?

The reason that I ask is that I have a mainland ancestor who married in 1781 in Alverstoke, Hampshire, and signed the register. When he came to marry again in 1800 in Town Church, Guernsey, after the death of his first wife, the entry on the microfilm just looked like a diary entry by the priest or clerk.

Did signing the register start later in Guernsey than on the mainland please?
Many thanks
Helen
