NICOL, BRUCE, CUNNINGHAM in early to mid-1700's
« on: Wednesday 28 June 23 00:30 BST (UK) »
Here’s what I know…Hugh Nicol and Barbara Bruce had a daughter born Oct. 22, 1738 named Mary Nicol. Mary Nicol and Andrew Cunningham had a daughter born March 9, 1761 named Beatrix. I’m looking for any additional information regarding these and other relatives of these individuals in the Tranent, Pencaitland and Ormiston areas. Especially birth, baptism, marriage and death locations (plus other details as available. Many thanks!

This is possible but there was a tradition to name their children using these rules:

1st son named after father's father
2nd son named after mother's father
3rd son named after father
1st daughter named after mother's mother
2nd daughter named after father's mother
3rd daughter named after mother

This mostly applies to Andrew & Mary’s Children:

Beatrice Cunningham (named after Mary’s Sister???)
John Cunningham (named after Andrew’s Father)
Ann Cunningham
Hugh Cunningham (named after Mary’s Father)
David Cunningham
Andrew Cunningham (named after Father)
