crew list for ships registered in US ports 1844 to 1853
« on: Wednesday 28 June 23 06:48 BST (UK) »
My Great Grandfather sailed on US ships during this period.
The ports are - Charlestown during June 1844 to July 1846 and August 1850 to August 1852.
                    - Boston August 1846 to August 1850 and 1852 to 1853.
I have been unable to locate where the crew lists details are held.
I know the ship names, his rank and the individual time periods he served.
Any information would be gratefully received.

This might be what you are looking for.

searching for "1840's boston crew lists" found this background information page:

https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Massachusetts,_Boston,_Crew_Lists_-_FamilySearch_Historical_Records

There is a link at the bottom of the page that is supposed to go to the collection. It doesn't.
Searching for "familysearch Massachusetts, Boston Crew Lists" found this:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2216301

adding:
a similar search for Charlestown didn't find anything specific, but this page implies that the Charlestown records are included with Boston's:
https://www.archives.gov/boston/public/crew-lists.html

Charlestown was at one time a separate city but is now part of Boston. This site said that happened in 1873:
