George Square, Birmingham Road, Worcester

Hi, I have just found some relatives called Braznall living at George Square. On the 1851 Census all the people there are Whitesmiths (as my relative was later to become) and Nailers etc. I wondered if anyone may know why so many with these occupations lived in this area?

I can’t find the census page you refer to. I can see some Braznalls in Greens Square and Birmingham Street, Dudley (Worcs.) in 1851 - is this the same one? Probably the most common occupation in the square is nailor, that is a maker of nails. Dudley was a centre of ironware manufacturing, including nail making. I can only see a couple of whitesmiths in the area.
